2017 Auditions

The 2017 Sweetwater Summer Theater Institute presents CHILDREN OF EDEN. Production Dates: July 26-29, 2017 at San Ysidro High School.

Singers, Dancers, Actors, Stage Techs, and Set Construction Crews Needed!

Audition Dates:
Tuesday, May 9 @ EastLake High School, Choir Room 1604 from 4 – 7 pm
Friday, May 12 @ Chula Vista High School, Little Theater on K St. from 4 – 7 pm
Monday, May 15 @ San Ysidro High School, Dance Room 913 from 4 – 7 pm

Performer Auditions:

1. Sign up for an audition time here. Sign ups will begin April 25th, 2017.

2. Fill out the audition form here. You can fill this out online and print OR print a blank form and fill out by hand. Form must be brought with you to the audition.

Deadline for sign ups is noon the day of the audition. No walk-on auditions will be allowed. All auditions must be scheduled via the online portal above.

Prepare 16 measures of a song of your choice and bring an ipod/music player. Wear comfortable clothing that you are able to dance in and arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time to check-in.

For call-backs, be prepared to sing and read.

Tech Crew Application:

  1. Fill out the application form here. You can fill this out online and print OR print a blank form and fill out by hand.
  2. Prepare a brief resume with your tech experience highlighted.
  3. The form and resume can be emailed to vapa.mail@sweetwaterschools.org OR dropped off in person at one of the audition sites. All forms and resumes must be received by May 15, 2017.

Chula Vista High School – Drama Video

Congratulations to Chula Vista High School Production Drama Class of 2016-17 for creating a winning video for the Ben Vereen Wellness Through the Arts Student Essay/Video Contest (WTA). They submitted in the 5-minute Collaborative School Group Video Project category. The prompt was, “What is your best day?”  The video shows students using different Art disciplines to overcome the challenges they identified in their own lives and the lives of their friends:  homelessness, bullying, family discord, and eating disorders.  The students conceived, wrote, acted and edited the film (including original music).

As winners of the Top School Group Video Project category, they will be recognized at the Ben Vereen Awards on May 28, 2017! Congratulations to the Drama program at CVH! Video is below.

District Orchestra Spring Concert

District Orchestra Spring Concert is Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 7 pm. Featuring the District String and Symphonic Orchestras under the direction of Jennifer Opdahl, Greg Caldera, and Maren Glover. Southwest Middle School presents 5 de Mayo Music Department Celebration on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. Featuring Congressman Juan Vargas, SUHSD Dignitaries, School Wide Assembly, and performances by Southwest Junior Alumni Frankie J, Steel Drum Band, Mariachi, African Drum Band, and Marching Drum Band. Rancho del Rey Middle School – Drama

Rancho del Rey Middle School Drama Department presents Dear Chuck by Jonathan Dorf on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 6:30 pm in the RDRM Cultural Arts Center (1174 East J Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910) Directed by by Jennifer Sudderth. General admission is $5 at the door, free admission for children under five.

2017 Digital Media Showcase

The ninth annual Digital Media Showcase and Award Ceremony is Thursday, April 27 at 6pm. Location: Otay Ranch High School Pavilion (1250 Olympic Parkway, Chula Vista, CA 91913)

Featuring student work created in digital media classes throughout the Sweetwater Union High School District. Student work in photography, computer art, graphic design, video, and music technology is celebrated. Industry professionals judge the submissions and awards are given to the top entries. Free admission.

District Mariachi Spring Concert

District Mariachi Spring Concert is Wednesday & Thursday, April 26 & 27, 2017 at 6:30 pm at Chula Vista High School Jack Tygett Performing Arts Center (820 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91911) Featuring middle and high school Mariachi groups. General Admssion is $5 at the door.

Performing Wednesday: Chula Vista High, Montgomery Middle, Southwest High, and Southwest Middle.

Performing Thursday: Bonita Vista High, Bonita Vista Middle, Montgomery High, National City Middle, Otay Ranch High, San Ysidro High, and Sweetwater High.
